VIA Train The Ocean

USPA NEWS - On Friday February 28th, Via Rail resumes  service from Montrèal to Halifax, Nova Scotia. The resumption of VIA's "Ocean" will provide regular scheduling between Quebèc and the Maritime provinces.

As previously reported, Thursday February 13, 2020, VIA Rail suspended all service accross Canada as CN shut down  operations in Eastern Canada due to ongoing protest blackades. In the 42 year history of VIA, never has such action  taken place. Over the last week there have been service resumption in some areas, however a good portion of VIA routes are still not running or running on partial schedules. As of February 26th  at 1645, VIA posted a travel advisory to their website which summarizes the service resumption and service cancellations. 

The following routes are still cancelled: Toronto to Ottawa, Toronto to Montrèal, Senneterre to Jonquière, Prince Rupert to Prince George to Jasper and the Canadian(Toronto to Vancouver).

The following routes have had service restored to full service: Toronto to London and Windsor, Toronto to Sarnia, Toronto to Niagara Falls and  Quèbec City to Montrèal and Ottawa. The Ocean from Montrèal to Halifax will resume full service on Friday February 28th and Winnipeg to The Pas will resume full service on March 1st.

VIA Rail said, "We continue to work with the infrastructure owner, CN Rail, on making sure that normal service can resume on all other routes and that passengers can be welcomed back on board our trains as quickly as possible. Even though we look forward to sharing updates on resumption dates of our services in a timely manner, the safety of our passengers and employees remains our top priority throughout this process."
