FORMULA 1-MCLAREN DRIVER FERNANDO ALONSO IN OBSERVATION AFTER CRASH

CAUSE OF SUNDAYS ACCIDENT UNCLEAR

USPA NEWS - Spanish motor racing ace Fernando Alonso remained under observation in the hospital in Barcelona Monday after his dramatic accident on the Montmelò circuit during the last day of Formula 1 pre-season tests.
Clinical tests on the Mclaren driver found no evidence of serious injury from Sunday's spill. Spanish media reported the former Ferrari driver will remain in General de Catalunya hospital for the next 24 to 48 hours.
Meanwhile the causes of the accident between the third and fourth curves at Montmelò remain a mystery despite remarks by McLaren Racing director Eric Boullier minimized the incident as "a normal test accident".
Alonso hurtled off the track for reasons that remain unclear, ending up in a slip road, crashing into barriers and seriously damaging his car, from which he initially was unable to emerge.
However Alonso's physiotherapist told reporters "he is conscious and well".
Ferrari driver Sebastien Vettel said "Alonso was going slowly, he did a strange manouevre - he turned right toward the wall and hit it a couple of times. Then I lost sight of him".
