Mexico: Gunmen rape six Spanish women in Acapulco

USPA News - A group of gunmen raided a vacation cabin in a Mexican beach resort and sexually abused six female Spanish nationals, local authorities said Tuesday. The incident occurred at around 2:30 a.m. local time, when a group of five hooded gunmen broke into a beach side bungalow beside the Bambuddha Hotel in Mexico`s popular tourist destination, Acapulco, Guerrero.
The gunmen tied up eight people and sexually abused the six women on a number of occasions before exiting the bungalow, located in the Barra Vieja area, around two hours later. The attackers also took two laptops, three digital cameras, two tablets, sixteen cellphones, credit cards, wallets, and around 8,800 pesos ($700), among other items. Acapulco Mayor, Luis Walton Aburto, through his Twitter account condemned the incident and "any type of violence, especially against women. It`s a shame that this happened in Acapulco." Walton was criticized shortly after the news broke out for his initial statement in which he said "this happens anywhere, in Acapulco or in Mexico." He quickly apologized through social media again, saying his words were misunderstood and "never had the intention of hurting the victims or minimizing the incident." Local and state authorities set up increased security measures in the area after investigations were concluded at around 12 p.m. local time. Agents from the Attorney General`s Office took bed sheets, towels, and other items from the bungalow for further examinations.
