I Have Been Robbed
Someone stole my equipment
USPA NEWS -
The other day, Thursday (10/22) to be exact, something unimaginable happened to me concerning my press equipment: something that I never would have thought would have happened to me ever. I was robbed.
I Was Robbed: Part I
For those who don´t already know, on Thursday (10/22), while working on an assignment, I was robbed“¦ of nearly everything. The items stolen were my MacBook, my iPad Mini, my mobile hotspot device, and several cables and adapters to both the stolen devices and my other devices which were not stolen. The only things that were not stolen from my laptop bag was my GoPro HERO, its accessories, my Belkin surge protector, some stenographers´´ notebooks and spiral notepads, some loose paperwork, my small hammer (the reason why I carry a hammer in my bag is because sometimes getting the surge protectors´ cord in certain older electrical outlets), and my safety vest with the word “PRESS“ on the back.
I Was Robbed: Part II
In total, if you go by what the items are worth (as of July 1, 2015), I lost a whopping total of approximately $2,040 dollars, not Including the priceless data on the MacBook and iPad Mini that I cannot recover. What happened was that I was at a place out in Shelby, North Carolina, where I was doing two things: the first being in a Vocational Rehab program, and the second was writing an special report article on the VR company itself. I did not even fully unpacked my equipment out of the bag, when I had to run and do something. I had set up in the Administration Unit of the place, somewhere in which I thought was restricted. I apparently was wrong. When I came back from the said task, my bag was unzipped, and my stuff was missing.
I Was Robbed: Part III
I have four things to say. First, to the person who stole from me, hear this: I have never actually truly hated anyone in my life. You, you changed that. Moving on.Second, the first of many lessons learned: I will be, and it will be expensive, when I replace everything, I will be investing in new cases, ones that can lock better.
Third, I will have to learn to, unfortunately, not trust people as easily. Well, like the old saying goes: "You give someone an inch, they take a mile."
