On November 6, 2015, in Lyon, the two associations of elected representatives of the urban world, the Association of Mayors of Major Cities of France (AMGVF), chaired by Jean-Luc Moudenc, mayor of Toulouse, president of Metropolis Toulouse, and Association of urban Communities of France (ACUF).

A new Association will emerge with an identity and a renewed governance under the slogan "Urban world, a chance for France", was voted during a plenary session with the participation of the Prime Minister, Manuel Valls.
"The merger of two reference organisations in the sphere of local government is a major event and an important step in the regionalisation process induced by the territorial reform. It is the culmination of a rapprochement initiated and carried by two organisations that have progressively joined expertise and know-how at the service of the effectiveness of public policies."
